First lady Michelle Obama will visit Denver on Monday as part of a mentoring and leadership initiative aimed at girls.

She began the program earlier this month at the White House and officials said she planned to take it on the road. Denver appears to be the first announced stop.

Details of the visit will be announced Friday, the White House said, but the first lady will speak at a midday luncheon at the governor’s mansion featuring students paired up with national and local women leaders.

Obama will visit a school in the afternoon and the women leaders will fan out to other schools to promote the initiative.

Rep. Betsy Markey, D-Fort Collins, will be among those participating, her spokesman confirmed Wednesday.
