AMMAN, Jordan —  A previously unknown group of Iraqi Baathists pledged allegiance to Saddam Hussein’s fugitive deputy Izzat Ibrahim and named him the "legitimate president of Iraq," a statement issued by the group said Sunday.

The statement was distributed in Amman at the Jordan branch of Saddam’s Baath party where dozens of people came to pay condolences for the former president who was hanged to death Saturday. The statement was apparently sent from the Baath party in Baghdad.

"In the name of Baghdad’s Citizens Gathering, we pledge allegiance to Gen. Izzat Ibrahim al-Douri as the legitimate president of Iraq and the chief of the armed forces," said the statement. [more]

Just recently, the Taliban issued a new set of 30 rules to its fighters.

Many of the instructions were to be expected: rule No. 25 commands the murder of teachers if a warning and a beating does not dissuade them from teaching. No. 26 outlines the exquisite delicacy of burning schools and destroying anything that aid organizations might undertake — such as the building of a new road, school or clinic. The essence of the other rules are easily left to the imagination, basically involving what militant Islam is about: vile hate, death and destruction.

But there is a curious rule that the Western media has typically ignored. Rule No. 19 instructs that Taliban fighters must not take young boys without facial hair into their private quarters.

Right.

Aside from the question of what is permitted if a young boy does happen to have facial hair, this new Taliban commandment brings light to a taboo pathology that underlies the structures of militant Islam. And it is crucial to deconstruct the meaning of this rule — and the horrid reality that it represents — because it serves as a gateway to understanding the primary causes of Islamic rage and terror.

Rule No. 19 obviously indicates that the sexual abuse of young boys is a prevalent and institutionalized phenomenon among the Taliban and that, for one reason or another, its widespread practice has become a problem. [more]

Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez has said he will not renew the licence for the country’s second largest TV channel which he says expires in March 2007.

In an address to troops, Mr Chavez said he would not tolerate media outlets working towards a coup against him.

Radio Caracas Television, which is aligned with the opposition, supported a strike against Mr Chavez in 2003.

But the TV’s head said there must be some mistake as its licence was not up for renewal in the near future.

Marcel Granier also vowed to fight against the president’s plans in Venezuela’s courts and on the international stage.

Granted Islammemo is a propaganda machine for the terrorists and take credit (claiming to have shot down) a U.S. chopper when in reality a mechanical failure caused the crash.  However, that doesn’t mean a chopper didn’t go down and the whole crew wasn’t lost. Though whoever took this video seems drunk, (the cell phone camera is all over the place), you do see Saddam swinging from under the trap door with a noose around his neck. No doubt, he’s dead.  Fitting that the Iraqis executed Saddam in one of his own torture/death chambers.

After the rope is in place, the Iraqi’s send blessings on Prophet Mohammed and his family, and one of the Sadrists shouts "Moqtada, Moqtada, Moqtada" (its a Sadrist thing). Saddam smiles and says something you cant clearly hear because one of Iraqi’s shouts back "go to hell". You can hear Saddam say "shame on you" just before someone says "Long Live Mohammed Baqer Al Sadr" and another says "go to hell" again. There is another voice which we hear for the first time repeatedly shouting "please…please", its most likely an Iraqi official asking everyone to keep quiet. Saddam then repeats the words "There is no god but Allah, and Mohammed is his messenger". He says it one more time before he drops but doesnt get time to finish his sentence…"There is no god but Allah, and Mohammed…" *trap door opens and he falls*. Immeiately after his neck snaps, people send blessings on Prophet Mohamemd and his family (without the ‘Moqtada’ dramatics this time) and shout "May Allah curse you" and "the dictator has fallen". Then amid the darkness, someone takes a picture and you can clearly see Saddam still hanging from the rope".

Hussein buried in same cemetery as sons, about 100 people show up.

I first saw Saddam Hussein making a speech on a distant platform in Baghdad in 1978. He was already known as “The Strong Man of Iraq” and the following year he executed several leaders of the ruling Baath Party who were opposed to him to become the all-powerful president.
Criticism of the leader and his family was highly dangerous. People in cafes in Baghdad were nervous if they accidentally spilled their coffee on their newspaper. They feared they might be accused of deliberately defacing the picture of Saddam Hussein that invariably appeared on the front page.
He wanted to be a world historical figure and in a way he achieved his ambition. He compared himself to the great heroes of the Iraqi past, such as Sargon of Akkad, Nebuchadnezzar and Saladin. At the height of the Iran-Iraq War, when resources were strained in Iraq, he rebuilt part of ancient Babylon with ugly yellowed bricks, on each of which was printed his name.
Surprisingly, he succeeded in making the world ring with his name. But he did so through defeat and not victory. In 1980 he invaded Iran and started an eight-year-long war in which one million Iraqis and Iranians were killed and wounded. In 1990 he occupied Kuwait and was defeated by US-led forces.
Hussein destroyed his own country. When he came to power it had oil, money, a competent administration and a well-educated population. He left it in ruins. He inflicted on his people years of war that still show no sign of ending. [more]

Saudi Arabia on Saturday criticized Iraq’s leaders for executing former Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein during the Eid al-Adha feast, saying his trial had been politicized. "There is a feeling of surprise and disapproval that the verdict has been applied during the holy months and the first days of Eid al-Adha," a presenter on the official al-Ikhbariya TV said after programming was broken to read a statement.

"Leaders of Islamic countries should show respect for this blessed occasion…not demean it," said the statement, which was attributed to the official news agency SPA’s political analyst.

"It had been expected that the trial of a former president, who ruled for a considerable length of time, would last longer…demonstrate more precision, and not be politicized."

Saturday is the most important date in this year’s Islamic calendar, as Muslims all over the world mark the Eid al-Adha, or Feast of the Sacrifice. This religious feast is viewed by devout Muslims as a time of forgiveness and compassion and leaders of Islamic nations often pardon criminals to mark the occasion, and prisoners are rarely executed at that time.

In the latest loony liberal conspiracy rhetoric; many are claiming Bush had Saddam executed now, planned former president Ford’s funeral now, and even planned James Brown’s funeral now, to keep the "encroaching" 3000th troop deaths out of the limelight.  

That’s right, Bush planned all three events just to keep the American peoples mind off the approaching 3000 dead mark.
