Chimpanzees can pass knowledge from one individual to the next with nearly perfect accuracy through several "generations" of teacher and learner, a new study shows.
This ability, which has never been demonstrated in chimps before, means that these apes have one of the key skills needed to create and maintain true cultural differences among groups.
Researchers have known for many years that different groups of wild chimps behave differently. However, without controlled experiments it is impossible to know for certain whether these represent adaptations to subtly different conditions or different traditions inherited culturally within each group.
Victoria Horner, a primate behaviourist at the University of St Andrews, UK, and colleagues tested whether chimps are capable of transmitting knowledge faithfully through a chain of learners.
The researchers devised a box whose door could be opened in either of two ways, by lifting a flap or sliding it sideways. "Then we basically set up the telephone game [also known as Chinese whispers] with chimpanzees," Horner explains. I was at the Maywood, California protest yesterday joining Save Our State and Minutemen protesting the fact that Maywood allows it to be a "sanctuary city". This was my experience… I was dropped off by my ride while he parked and I saw all of the American flags and started walking towards them and suddenly there was a rush of thugs running towards me calling out "death to the minutemen". They stopped me in my tracks. They pushed me around and told me if I was to take one step further, they would beat the shit out of me. I looked to the back of me and there were about 4 police officers leaning on their vehicle just watching, doing nothing! So, as I stepped forward, they stole my sign and ripped it up as another was throwing water on me. Meanwhile, I am still getting pushed around and threatened so I again look back to see if the police are going to help. Nope! So, I stood there with my hands on my hips with one hand on my pepper spray and I was ready to use it. Again, I might mention that there are 4 or 5 police officers behind me doing NOTHING to the fact that I am being threatened, pushed around and stolen from. I was ready for whatever they were going to give me at that point. I was going to pepper spray all of them and I looked back one more time as I am being pushed around by men, a police officer finally waves me over. So, I went over and then they escorted me across the street to another group of officers who escorted me to our SOS group.
After being at the rally for a while, we noticed that the opposition was getting louder and they we watched as they took the American flag off of the flag pole and stepped on it on the ground at the United State Post Office and mounted a Mexican flag and up it went. At this point the police did nothing. Finally, they went over to take it down and they had bottles and rocks thrown at them. They did not attempt to arrest anyone. They were unable to take it down because they cut the wrong line so the flag remained there for the rest of the day.
I believe that all Americans need to know about this and need to see that Mexican flag hanging at an American post office. We are being invaded and the American people need to wake up!
Another woman was beat up (while the police watched) and injured as well as an elderly man. They tend to pick on the weaker targets. Thanks for reading my story.

Illegal Immigration Protesters Rally in Maywood
(CBS)
MAYWOOD Several hundred protestors rallied Saturday in front of Maywood City Hall to protest illegal immigration, along with counter-demonstrators.
Representatives from Save Our State and the Minutemen demonstrated in front of Maywood City Hall Saturday morning.
"Our department has taken appropriate measures to prevent these demonstrators from crossing paths, while allowing them to express their First Amendment rights," according to a Maywood police officer.
"Precautionary measures and logistical plans have been put in place to ensure a peaceful demonstration," he said. "In preparedness for the gathering, a command post with a sufficient number of officers has also been established."
Maywood has declared itself as a sanctuary for illegal aliens. Various news accounts have said its official population of approximately 28,000 swells to 45,000 when illegal immigrants are counted.
Garcia said that the SOS and Minutemen representatives insisted on their plan for a peaceful demonstration.

Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki said yesterday, a day on which more than 60 Iraqis were killed in sectarian violence, that his country could handle its own security and withstand a withdrawal of all U.S. troops in the next 12 months.
Appearing on CNN’s "Late Edition," Mr. al-Maliki was asked through a translator whether Iraqi forces could sustain security if the U.S. withdrew all troops in one year.

A MAN set himself on fire in Moscow’s Red Square, just across the Kremlin wall from President Vladimir Putin’s office, Interfax news agency reported.
“A man poured inflammable liquid on himself and ignited it,” the agency quoted a city police source as saying. “He sustained some burns and is now being treated by doctors.”
Interfax said the 32-year-old man had not made any demands.

LONDON, Aug. 27 (UPI) — Internet sperm providers are to be contacted by Britain’s Department of Health this week to inform them of new regulations covering the sale of fresh sperm.
The new rules will require that all sperm samples gathered by online providers be frozen and tested for viruses before being sold, the same regulations the government requires of Britain’s health clinics, The Independent reported.
"We are saying they will not be able to sell fresh sperm direct," said a Department of Health source. "They will have to guarantee it has been screened for six months, the same way as clinics do. They will be subject to the same rules and will have to freeze sperm."
Online sale of sperm in Britain has increased dramatically recently due to the British government’s decision to limit confidentiality in to sperm donations at clinics throughout the country.
The online providers will have until next April to conform to the new regulations, the newspaper said, and the effect of the new rules will likely be that such samples will remain frozen by female customers until self-insemination.
