Katie Carroll, twin sister of Jill Carroll, appeared on the Arab TV station Al Arabiya Wednesday, where she talked about how Jill’s kidnapping has affected her family and to appeal directly to the Iraqi people for information that could lead to her release.

Following are some excerpts from Katie’s appearance:

"I am speaking to you today because it has been nearly two months since the last video of my sister was broadcast. We have had no contact with her nor received any information about her condition. Since that time, I’ve been living a nightmare, worrying if she is hurt or ill. There is no one I hold closer to my heart than my sister and I am deeply worried wondering how she is being treated. No family should have to endure having their loved one taken away from them in this way.

"My family and I would like to take this opportunity to thank the Iraqi people for the support and friendship you’ve shown us during this difficult time….

Clinton chauffeur an illegal immigrant

NEWARK, N.J., March 27 (UPI) — An embarrassing hole in security surrounding former U.S. President Bill Clinton turned up when one of his chauffeurs was found to be a wanted man.

Shahzad Qureshi, 42, was in one of three cars awaiting Clinton at Newark Airport last week when a Port Authority policeman happened to check license plate numbers.

The computer came back showing the Pakistani national had skipped a residency-status hearing in 2000, and a deportation order had been issued by the Immigration and Naturalization Service, the New York Post reported.

Qureshi was still in jail Monday awaiting immigration processing, the report said.

POLICE arrested more than 100 people during disturbances on the fringes of the Paris demonstration against a new youth jobs law, according to a provisional police count.
Low-level clashes were continuing to take place in the Place de la Republique, the end point of the march in the northeast of the capital.
Police and union marshals intervened after a gang of youths stole mobile telephones and cameras from people taking part in the protest.

Earlier masked youths smashed the windows of a cafe and tried to mug people near the starting point of the march at Place d’Italie, in the south of the city.

Interior Minister Nicolas Sarkozy earlier warned that gangs from the Paris suburbs could infiltrate the demonstration.

At least one million people, by police estimate, were participating in marches nationwide against the labour law, which was created to encourage companies to hire workers aged under 26 but makes it easier to fire them.

WASHINGTON (CNN) — The Defense Department has withdrawn its appeal challenging a district court order requiring it to turn over to civil rights groups 74 photographs and three videotapes depicting images of abuse at Abu Ghraib prison in Baghdad, officials said Tuesday.

The American Civil Liberties Union and other rights groups filed a Freedom of Information Act lawsuit against the department in October 2003, before the release of the first images from the prison nearly seven months later, looking for documents related to abuse of detainees held in U.S. custody abroad.

Forget Dubai. Try Venezuela’s potential takeover of the U.S. voting apparatus. A secretive, intransparent company called ‘Smartmatic’ that’s known to have ties to the Venezuelan government, has just bought a U.S. voting machine company called Sequoia. And the deal has gotten no scrutiny from federal regulators, who cite outdated criteria for national military security as their only watchpoint.

That’s right, Venezuela, a country that holds the dirtiest, filthiest most intransparent and fraudulent elections in the hemisphere, elections that match those of Zimbabwe or Belarus, has just got its hands on a U.S. electronic voting company and now might be in charge with the outcome of your vote. Venezuelan dictator Hugo Chavez has long used soft power against the U.S., through the manipulation of oil prices and the distribution of cheap heating fuel to select poor contingencies in a bid to buy loyalty. He’s also funded a very active propaganda office, whose chief purpose has been to intimidate U.S. news media like the Los Angeles Times into publishing Venezuela’s otherwise not-worth-bothering-about government tripe. It openly organizes letter-writing campaigns using swarms of U.S. leftists as its semi-covert agents. Now, Chavez has moved on to far more ambitious things like getting a grip on the U.S. voting apparatus itself.

Venezuela’s electoral system is based on a system of highly suspect electronic machines. These machines have been demonstrated to have the capacity to record voter identities and match them with cast ballots. This was proven in Venezuela in November 2005. These machines also appear to have flipped final tally results, as seemingly happened in August 2004, a sham election endorsed by the odious Jimmy Carter who—- amazingly—endorsed the obviously fraudulent recall referendum as “free and fair” and tried to undermine any other sources with evidence to the contrary.

All of these horrible things brought Venezuela its current dictatorship. Smartmatic’s voting machines are the chief reason why Venezuelans no longer trust their voting systems and why at least 82% of them refused to vote at all during December 2005’s elections, something I witnessed myself in Caracas.

With Chavez already convincingly shown to have been meddling in Mexico’s and in Peru’s elections right now, there is no doubt in the slightest that Chavez intends to do as much as he can to destroy our elections in our free system here, too. He’s got his eyes on us. He intends to destroy our elections and put a candidate to his liking as high up as he can go in our government in our next election.

BERLIN, March 28 (UPI) — German customs agents have raided the offices of 41 companies and found extensive evidence for illegal exports to support Iran’s nuclear program.

Some 250 German agents last week searched companies in ten of Germany’s 15 states, according to a report from public broadcaster ARD. Officials from a prosecutor’s office in Potsdam, a city neighboring Berlin, confirmed the details of the report.

Benedikt Welfens, a spokesman for the prosecutors’ office, told ARD that a Berlin-based company acted as the main hub for organizing the exports.

"Its main business is the nuclear program of Iran," he said in the report, which was aired Monday night. "We found out that the employees of this company purposefully contacted companies in Germany to buy very specific components for Iran."

Seven employees of the Berlin-based company, mainly of Russian origin, organized hydraulic pumps and other specialized material to be sent to Iran.

At least one German firm knew about the illegality of the exports, the report claimed. In one case, agents confiscated specialized cables and money worth more than $2.4 million. The material, which could be used for civilian as well as military purposes, was to be sent to Iran via front firms in Moscow and Dubai. The investigation is ongoing.

Iran may face United Nations-mandated sanctions over its nuclear program, which it insists is peaceful and not aimed at producing nuclear weapons.

Government investigators smuggled radioactive materials into U.S.

WASHINGTON (CNN) — Two teams of government investigators using fake documents were able to enter the United States with enough radioactive sources to make two dirty bombs, according to a federal report made available Monday.

The investigators purchased a "small quantity" of radioactive materials from a commercial source, according to a Government Accountability Office report prepared for Senate Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations Chairman Norm Coleman, a Minnesota Republican.

The investigators posed as employees of a fictitious company and brought the materials into the United States through checkpoints on the northern and southern borders, the report stated. (Watch expert on why U.S. is equally vulnerable at both borders — 4:08)
