TDL GAMING NEWS: U.N. THEMED FIRST PERSON SHOOTER TO BE RELEASED
SAN JOSE, CA (A.P.)- Gaming giant Electronic Arts has announced that it will release an innovative first person shooter video game with a United Nations peacekeeper theme.
The game, entitled “Call of Dookie: Observing Genocide”, will feature a varitey of missions that will be based on real-life United Nations peacekeeping operations in the Balkans and Africa during the 1990s.
The player begins Call of Dookie as a Pakistani Peacekeeper during U.N. Operations in Somalia, where he will be able to do nothing as U.S. Army Rangers are surrounded and nearly massacred by thousands of Somalis in Mogadishu.
Later missions include those of Belgian Peacekeepers in Rwanda. In these missions, the player will shy away and watch as thousands of innocent people are butchered right in front of his eyes.
Perhaps the most graphically spectacular part of the game is where the gamer is asked to play as a Dutch Peacekeeper in Bosnia. Here, the player is given the real-life task of assuring civilian refugees of their saftey, and then abandoning them and running away as they are captured and summarily executed by Serbian forces.
An integrated online gameplay engine with hundreds of dedicated servers will allow purchasers of Call of Dookie to compile and track gameplay statisitics, thus allowing for players to gain rank over time.
Higher echelon missions will allow the advanced player to do nothing in a large office at U.N. Headquarters in New York. Still other missions will challenge the player to steal as much money as he can, or try to secure payoffs to the player’s computer-generated family members in complex and corrupt international schemes.
If the player is corrupt and ineffectual enough, he may eventually achieve the goal of the game: to be elected U.N. Secretary General.
Call of Dookie: Observing Genocide is due to be released this summer. Plans are already in the works for a sister game which will reportedly be entitled “E.U. Warrior: Just Let the Americans Do It”.
