Tom Fox wrote the day before he was abducted, : “We are here to stand with those being dehumanized by oppressors (read: U.S. and coalition forces) and stand firm against that dehumanization. We are here to stop people, including ourselves (read:Westerners), from dehumanizing any of God’s children, no matter how much they dehumanize their own souls.”

The Iraqi CPT mission statement notes that “the primary focus of the team for eighteen months following the invasion was documenting and focusing attention on the issue of detainee abuses and basic legal and human rights being denied them.”
